Dopamine (yellow molecule) is released by our bodies when we do something pleasurable. The neurotransmitter binds to its receptors (white and red) which in turn activates the intracellular G-proteins. The activated G-proteins interact with other molecules to enable the signal to be relayed between different brain cells.
Dopamine is also important in movement and motivation. Proper levels of dopamine allow our bodies to perform at their peak. "Peak Performance" has been the 2023-24 PDB-101 Health Focus with many learning resources developed for understanding the structural biology of living our best lives.
PDB structures used for the dopamine receptor: 8uo2 and 6vms.Past news and events have been reported at the RCSB PDB website and past Newsletters.
